But we managed to come back for the Wii challenge! And this is how my hubby and drey look like when they are engrossed in the Wii wave~

I love parties!! i like the laughter and fun and i love my friends =D

Star Fish Story

This was the story tt was told to me when i first stepped into NIE...
.
Once a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surf's edge and and the beach. Back and forth this person went. As the man approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide.

The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to perish. As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf.

As he came up to the person he said, "You must be crazy. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You can't possibly make a difference." The person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said, "It sure made a difference to that one!"

2.5 years into service, this is the first time that i celebrated xmas with my students! i attended my students' xmas gathering @ Clarke Quay on Saturday. It was so heartening to see so many of them turned up! It has been almost a year since i last saw them.

They are my very first batch of form class (27/06) - my angelic students :) And i was really close to them... Rem how i slowly get to know each of them as i laughed and yell @ them... How we survived the stressful 'A's together mugging/marking hard for the timed prac and exams... and how i hugged their farewell gift and cried the whole evening away in Oct and celebrated their joy of rainbow results in March...

Now my little starfish are all grown up... the girls in uni, so pretty and polished... the naughty boys no longer sleepy and lazy but serving the army and more matured... seeing them bickering around and catching up with one another's life really warmed my heart and opps ya i actually almost teared again but i held back coz i think its quite toopid to cry in front of them.. T_T

I guess this shall be the entry to remind me of the reason why i joined the profession and during times when i am tired and about to give up, i will look back and smile and carry on to do what i should continue to do even better :) for them...

Life as Mrs Ang

Kiora! Back from our first jog @ sbw! Exploring the new neighbourhood... hmm~ very new... While i am cooling down, shall clean up the spider webs in my blog =D

We are back frm the land of kiwi and i still cant believe tt i am married!!! Gulp!!! settling down as Mr Ang's domesticated wife and Sbw house owner =)

Yeah... there is quite a lot of backlog for the wedding prep, but life has to go on... so here i am to share with u bits and pieces of the newly wed life thus far! the history will be unveil in due time hee~

I treasure the holidays now... waking up @ 9+ every morn... preparing omelete eggie or ham cheese sandwichie for breakfast and reading Straits Times Interactive. We haven't subscribe to the newspp as yet... so will just make do with the e-paper..

Then watch a few hours of Gem show or do a bit of house work before i start whopping up a simple uodn/noddle lunch for the hubb ard 1pm. Nothing fantastic, 'mdm cai' still learning to cook a sweet and yummilicous noodle soup but there's quite a bit of ingredients.. green vege, carrots, meatie, prawn wanton, golden mushroom... hiak hiak hiak~ even tho its v blend, but at least i think it looks deceivingly appetising haha~

Later in the afternoon, the other half will be dota-ing while i am either gem-ing or reading up my econs materials (but very very ineff...)

We usually dinn out in the evening - either settling it at our parents' home or meet up w frenz. otherwise its hubb's turn to cook real nice pasta! and not forgetting the nyonya show !

Life is simple and happy! Tho i miss home once a while... but they are just a phonecall and 15min mrt ride away! and my a bu and halulu will pop by every now and then! =D

Kk... time to go pong pong and we are hopping over to Northpt to shop! heard tt it has alr made over bout 80%... Gg stock up our groceries too!!

Till we meet again, have a good short wk ahead! tataz~

Meant to be a simple cosy nitez for us all so we watched Star Dust and snacked out and they had a quiz of 30 questions for me – How well do you understand your husband??!! roarRRR Haha it seemed more like an hour worth of interrogation which I only managed to answer 8 questions correct!!! Nope, i am not at all guilty... Nope i am not stressed~

Giggle, its alright right, lao gong hee~ I will take a lifetime to slowly understand and love my hubby tsk tsk~

(Thinking aloud: Hmpf I will make sure Mr Ang goes through the same interrogation too! Hiak hiak hiak)

Girls, thanxie for the lovely sweet and really thoughtful presents =) Will fully utilise them when the time is right keke, dun worry!!

Then another round of packing will begin… But i haben take my dolphin and mushroom for spa... wait they go over new house as blackie.. eee must clean them first...

Hee today is the day when the groom and a supposed matchmaker is to deliver the betrothal gifts, wedding cakes and dowry to the bride’s family. So my family will accept the gifts and return a portion of it to the groom… tot today will also be doing the 安床 (laying of new bedsheet) but no wor… The dowager say its 2 days before so okie lo hee…

Bookworm Miffy~

While I am running around between SBW house and preparing for wedding stuff, I decided that I should still keep in touch with my forte – Economics. Think 2008 has given me ample time to catch up with my content as well as the recent financial turmoil and revived my love for the subject. I feel that I am just so ignorant of current affairs and sometimes I feel ashamed of the unawareness.

It’s amazing how the world revolves around economics isn’t it. Haha.. everything just happen and react based on the fundamentals of the theory. I am not saying that physics is not ‘real’ enough though… but money makes the world goes round…

I attempted to make reading Economics blogs (daily or when I am free) a habit to keep myself a little more updated. And of coz I just dug out a well-received book which I had bought ages ago but had abandoned in the dark and forgotten depths of my cupboard – The World is Flat.

And it has not disappointed me! Truly insightful explanations and anecdotes about the forces of Globalisation. Refreshes my perspective as a minute college teacher in a small red dot on the globe!

The flattened world allows Bangalore to work for American firms (the Indians working in call centres have to go through 'accent neutralisation class' to disguise their pronouced Indian accents with American, Canadian or British ones depending on which part of the world they are speaking with!!!) and Dalian is actually providing manpower for Japanese companies (Jap obasans specialise in data entry for medical and legal terminologies!!!). =O
WOW~ the summary of the book - Over the Twentieth Century, the world began to go from vertical, heirarchical structure to a horizontalization. Googled and this is what i found...

Can I also work from home in future i.e. write lecture notes, prepare tutorial materials, do powerpoint slides and set exam questions (@ the ‘back office’)???

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Ah!!! 26 more days to the BIG day! Oh man!! I think wedding preparation is seriously a full time job – which I guess I quite enjoy (only after school days are over). Months before, everyday, after I reach home, I only have time to mark, eat, bathe and sleep.

I am thankful for the luxury of time now to really sit down and prepare. The hubby is working extra hard @ work now coz of the PW exam. I am trying to tie up as much ends as I can for the admin work, while precious weekends are spent running around collecting the album, doing the ang pao box and corsages together. Precious weekends are also spent cohabiting at the love nest to get ourselves familiarize with new place.

Been wanting to blog about all these for the longest time but as usual, I was more tempted to the HK drama serials that I have been crazily following. Hee opps, finished the Mooncake Resonance, starting on Fringe and also 珠光宝气 (Gigi Lai’s last work ) There are just so many shows that I wanna watch!!!

The wedding album is ready!
Sorrie all soft copy with the bear… tho the album is with me, no peek-a-boo here tsk tsk~ We went down on the 26th Oct to collect them together with Weilin & Edmund. Nice pictures! Very satisfied with their workmanship hee~ The actual album is so damn heavy ah! Dunnoe how to bring them all over to SBW (table top, big album and portrait)

Tuitions are almost over!!
Yupz.. my two little kids are having exam now. One of them is already done with his paper and I am grateful for the income though its really very xiong to meet them like 4x a week. Yupz!! $$$ been spending unknowingly on little things which are so essential that I also lost track of.. Guess I have to bring my camera over the next time to capture my galore of household items! (Look out for my Doraemon mat and cushion cover!!)

Corsages & Ang Bao box
Thanx to my dearest bride’s entourage! =D The DIY corsages are done within a morning with the help of the mentor Ching – my personalized florist! The girls gathered at my place early Saturday morning to start churning out the ribbons and flowers! The ang bao box still haven add on to the finishing touch though opps~ You shall see it on tt BIG day provided that the red packet is BIG enough wahahaha~ Thats Huiz, Ching & Xianz & me!!! @ work!
Hee look @ the apprentice doing up the feather pen for the signing of our ROM documents. Got the inspiration from the numerous websites tt i have been surfing. Some r really good! will list them down the next time =D

Don’t see his fingers fat fat okie… Not bad de wor… Ta-daaaa~

Today, I took my parents down to Chinatown to get things for Guo Da Li, the betrothal which is fixed to be on the 15th Nov, 2 weeks before the BIG day! This is the all-in-one shop which basically will help you match all the wedding accessories needed.

Lucky my ah bu and the dowager are not very particular about all these tradition, so simple and save cost! =) Just the important must haves - a sewing kit, bedside lamp and this cute little tea set which I have been eyeing for very long!

Yeah! Can cross out another item out of the to-do-list! Now I am more worried about the printing of the invitation card. Hope tt they will be ready by this weekend when we meet up with our friends! Sigh… little hiccups with my invite list too… But guess it all can't be help. =( Now is I really dunnoe who to ask!!!

But I don’t know why I keep feeling that there are still a gazillion things to do for the wedding and the BIG DAY is gonna be less than 4 weeks!! I have a million thoughts in my mind now and its so hard to imagine after so many months of preparation, my life is going to change after that! Yupz, happy and looking forward to it, yet I feel very sad and reluctant to leave the AMK house. Sniff sniff.

Anywayz, no time to sink into these pensive melancholic mood for now. Focused focused! How to make our vows wow???

Think tt's all for now ba… when I rem what I miss out I will add them in again! Tata~

Why am i getting married???

A couple came upon a wishing well. The husband leaned over, made a wish and threw in a penny. The wife decided to make a wish, too. But she leaned over too much, fell into the well, anddrowned. The husband was stunned for a while but then smiled and said, "It really works!"
---
A man rushed home from work and exclaimed to his wife, "Pack your bags. I've won the lottery!" The wife excitedly asks, "Should I pack clothes for cold or warm weather?" He says,"Pack'em all, you're leaving!"
------
Love is blind, but marriage is an eye-opener.
---------
A little boy asked his father,'Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?'Father replied, 'I don't know son, I'm still paying.'
------------

Hee something funny... enjoy!

Young and pretty lady wishes to marry a rich guy. Fantastic reply from a financial person

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum: Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?I'm going to be honest of what I'm going to say here. I'm 25 this year. I'm very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above. You might say that I'm greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York. My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married? I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you? Among those I've dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit. If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden (?), $250k annual income is not enough.

I'm here humbly to ask a few questions:

1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)

2) Which age group should I target?

3) Why most wives of the riches is only average-looking? I've met a few girls who don't have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys

4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)

Ms. Pretty

Here's a reply from a Wall Street Financial guy:

Dear Ms. Pretty,

I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyze your situation as a professional investor. My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I'm not wasting time here.

From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain. Put the details aside, what you're trying to do is an exchange of "beauty" and "money": Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square. However, there's a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can't be prettier year after year. Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It's not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worried 10 years later.

By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a "trading position". If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term and same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or "leased". Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps. If you are interested in "leasing" services, do contact me

I am tired of...

...rushing down to house to wait for contractor to rectify prob every alternate days...
...spending the sunday/saturday tuition-ing (even tho i do get some $$)... i'm getting more impatient nowadays...
...confirming details w external parties...
...cleaning and mopping the super big and empty house...
... measuring & recording the dimensions for items & kiv before double confirming... gg back to the place to get again...
...reading online for info and i get so stressed w info overload what to do, what not to do and wats good... i am pantang coz i would rather believe than regret in future. so i do my own research.
...waking up at 6/7/8 every morn w/o roti-prata-ing on bed...
... sourcing for the best deal for tv and fridge and fan...
... feeling guilty for every single cent spent. whether m i splurging on unnec things. do i really need it? can i save the $$ for the house? for my parents? or just save for rainy days. where has my $$ gone to??

now my travelling is basically amk --> bishan --> woodlands --> yck --> sbw --> amk... argghh.. i dun even hv time to go shopping for anything. i dun even hv time to watch a movie. i dun even hv time to go to my yrly lantern fest. the house, the wedding prep, the marking have all ripped out my 24 hrs... i am officially tired.

... i also cant rem what i have been doing for the past few weeks/months... everything seems like a whirlpool.. seconds n minutes ticking by, days and nitez slipping away... in addedum, the marking load roarRRR~

i m an organised person. Super organised. i hate JIT. i dun like to rush and i cant function well under stressful conditions. i like to plan ahead, in mindmap word doc, in checklist format, in excel file and even in hard copies (which i own more than 2 notebooks, 1 organiser & 1 diary to simply record dimensions & model numbers & impt info which keeps changing every few days). even if it means duplication. i hate uncertainty. i hate to be in doubt.

its so exhausting.. its so tired preparing for wedding & house. but i am not at all slim down!! WHY???!!

can i ever go back to the past to be the carefree girl?? maybe i shd hire a wedding planner. when ple envy u, they dun see the pain and sweat behind the scene.. i am officially tired.

good nitez.

random tots...

As our lives get more inter-twined, conflicts bound to increase. And!!! moo moo has her own moo moo life n hyper-active behaviour while bear bear has another set of bearish principles and hibernating habits. So in order to lead a blissful life (happily ever after... for a lifetime of about 50-60 years...) bear and moo must assimilate into a (balanced) bear-moo life in order to live in peace and harmony =D

We are in it tog.. and our little steps to nest building may be tough.. but we see it conceptualising day-by-day and its our house filled with urs n my deep love~ \(^-^)/

p.s. thanxie papa mama for driving us ard today to move the items over! muacks~
